I knew Elph was on his last leg since he was struggling with day-to-day activities, especially photo strolls in cold or humid weather. Even though he was a bit sluggish at times, he always seemed to snap out of it.
Well, I took him out Friday night to catch the fireworks in the city and things went downhill. I got a couple of shots out of him, powered him down, then heard this awful clicking noise. It eventually stopped after a few seconds and his LCD read "E18". My heart sank. His poor little lens wouldn't retract into his body, even after I tried to help it along. It took a firm nudge from one of my friends, and Elph started working again but he just didn't sound the same.
Sadly, his condition deteriorated on Sunday and I knew there wasn't much I could do. I put my ear to his little body and even though I could hear a faint sound when I powered him on and off, he wouldn't move and the dreaded E18 flashed in the lower left corner of his screen.
I don't know if I'll ever find a compact camera as great as Elph. He may have been old but we always saw things eye-to-eye, and he knew how to capture a moment with clarity and vibrant color. I'm tempted to send him off for repairs but I'm afraid the cost would be equivalent to buying a new camera. Or, I could try to fix him myself but the odds of that happening are pretty low.
For now, he'll go into retirement.
Thanks for all the memories, my little companion...
bugs. they're everywhere.
earlier today, swarms of mosquitos, gnats, dragonflies and not to mention bees bouncing off every window in the apartment. i thought they were small birds at first, until i lifted the blinds to look for the fallen bodies and saw a few bees bumping against the window instead.
tonight, we have crickets. i already have crickets living in my ears (well, the sound anyway) and now they're outside my window driving me crazy.
