i heard the song "apologize" by the band one republic for the first time after watching danny and anya perform on so you think you can dance. it's a hauntingly beautiful song, and i love this video...

btw, kelleah, i agree with you--i hate how people are picking on danny and i still can't see why they think he's arrogant. i can respect that he's reserved and by no means does it take away from his talent. that "magical" quality the judges keep talking about is there, it just isn't the flashy kind of magic that ~~america~~ a lot of people expect.

oh, and i watched the latest episode yesterday and was very pleased that shankman retracted his comment about danny having a "teenie" bit of arrogance in the way he dances. honestly, i think danny performs with confidence. i can't understand people faulting him for that. if he takes pride in his work, he won't dance half-assed. duhhh.

re: Danny and Anya, who are both, by far, the most talented dancers still in the competition - I think Danny doesn't come off as arrogant but does come across as finding this competition beneath him a bit. He is a classically trained champion junior ballet dancer who now runs his own contemporary dance company and releases a contemporary dance magazine. He's brilliant and knows he's brilliant and knows that judging by "the fans" on this competition deals well outside his technical gifts and trends towards dancers teenage girls will fawn over. He and Anya, so long as they are teamed together, evoke something far too mature for the audience.

Danny would likely have done a lot better with Shauna, who I don't think should've been voted off this week because she provides the youthful manic energy he lacks but also is skilled enough to keep up with him.

i agree, and it'll be interesting to see if their appeal changes. i'm not sure how i feel about danny in particular having to reinvent himself because i don't see anything wrong with his character. i do have a problem with the judges and how their criticism skews and influences the audience's opinion...it's like watching anchors, i mean, commentators on some news channels.
