note to self
double check the computer's trash bin before emptying it.
on a different note, i am a terrible cook when it comes to preparing vegetarian meals. yesterday, my first day of going pesci-vegetarian, i almost used a beef soup base for a dish i was cooking. i even tried to convince myself that i wouldn't be cheating if i used it since there would be no visible traces of meat. but i didn't. so the broth tasted like fish/ass. i decided to use fish sauce thinking it would add a little flavor to the soup i was making. never again.
the black-eyed peas and collard greens, however, were good with a little salt, black pepper, garlic and onions. i didn't miss the bacon or ham at all...must have been all that tabasco sauce i used.

Y'know, I've never gotten into the black-eyed peas and collard greens tradition, but it always makes me homesick whenever I hear about others who do. Weird, huh?
Good luck on your veggie-journey! Are you winging it for the most part or are you using cookbooks to help plan your meals?
as for the veggie journey, i'm winging most of it but also modifying some recipes from a couple of cookbooks i have.
it's only day two and i may have to reclassify my diet to a semi-vegetarian. i hadn't considered that eggs, milk and cheese would still be part of my diet along with fish, so i'm not sure it could be considered pesci. oh, well. the main thing for me is staying away from beef, poultry and pork for 30 days. *crosses fingers*
also, i find it rather amusing that you're flailing around finding recipes and stuff for this pesci-vegetarian adventure . . . when except for the chicken part, that's what i eat all the time! i can't eat anything with red meat (including stocks) or it makes me really sick - i never really liked it to start with so i just stopped eating it. and i really just don't like pork. never did.
fish however, i love . . . especially since every kind is so different. much more worth eating than boring chicken. although chicken is good when cooked in fun ways . . . but given a choice, it's either fish or vegetarian.
if you find good recipes, send them my way. i have no idea how to cook really, but i now may have a reason to learn. :)
Everyone knows you have to have black-eyed peas on New Years Day for good luck! We had ours in chilequiles for breakfast! :D
Happy New Year, Ang!
oh, and i'm cooking basa fish tonight. i don't have a recipe, just going to use whatever spices i have and see what happens. =\
right on! but chilequiles? i'm not sure i know the dish but i bet it was good. :) happy new year, steve!
