i hear you KFC
so i'm catching up on a few episodes of supernatural and there's a commercial on by KFC where a mother is talking to a babysitter about dinner. this commercial has been bugging the crap out of me for weeks and tonight is probably the third or fourth time i've seen it. as the camera zooms in on the "boneless variety bucket" there's a high pitch sound that causes my eardrums to go spastic and it drives me f*cking NUTS.
a while ago i had heard about the adult-proof high pitch ringtone, which originally started out as a mosquito repeller. apparently, a few people over the age of 30 cannot hear the sound.
well, KFC, i want to tell you that i've been hearing that sound during one of your commercials and it makes me want to throw giant flaming bags of poo at one of your establishments. i'm 32 years old and i don't want to hear that mess while i'm watching tv. if this is some sort of gimmick that's supposed to make people crave chicken, then it's not working. if anything, i now have the urge to hurl chunks.

really? i need to keep an ear out for the kfc commercial. if it makes you feel better...you must have a very good sense of hearing if you can hear it. you have young ears!
in other news. heroes. we're finally getting somewhere!
i don't watch commercials so i don't know about that kfc one. my friend told me about those phones and she said that she can't hear it (she's 31) but her boyfriend can (he's 24? or something like that.)... i thought that was kinda funny.
reesie, did you hear it on youtube or from your tv set? when i heard on the television, it reminded me of a hearing test i had done a few years ago. not fun at all.
also, i was checking youtube for the mosquito ringtone. dude, i don't hear NOTHIN'... all those years of concerts, music fests and clubs, i guess. hehe.
e*c, that's exactly what i thought the first time i heard it, that there was something wrong with the television or the tivo. then that night when i was watching my show, the commercial came on. so i watched it a couple of times to find the sound.
hmm, i wonder how many other people wanted take their televisions apart, or throw flaming bags of poo? *sigh*
damn you, ad execs and copywriters!!!
I know exactly what you're talking about. I have been trying to figure out if it is a marketing ploy, if the sound has the potential for us to want chicken or what. I think it does. Live you said, some high pitched sounds can't be heard by different age groups. Maybe the people that can hear this (10 - 30 year olds or whatever) are a demographic that KFC is trying to reach. Cus the sound ONLY comes on when they are showing the actual chicken.
